Next stop...Greenland!

On the flight back from Iceland, we were rewarded with amazing, clear views of Greenland.  Despite the name, the country is mostly covered in ice and snow, unlike Iceland. The views of the snow capped mountains, ice fields and glacial lakes were breathtaking!  Will have to return one day to get a closer look, but it was a perfect ending to an awesome trip!

Autumn in Iceland

Some final scenes from the West Central region of Iceland including Pingvelir National Park. Autumn has arrived and the landscape is now blanketed with Fall colors which looks incredible!

Northern Coast

A few sights along my tour of the northern coast including a brief wildlife encounter and what will probably be my final northern lights show.

Waterfalls and Rainbows

This is Godafoss, waterfall of the Gods.  As soon as the sun hits the mist spraying off the falls, rainbows appear.  And the water flowing down this river was a clear aqua blue color making it even more magical!

Lake Myvatn Area

Autumn colors carpet the landscape around Lake Myvatn.  This area includes several steam vents and some huge waterfalls.  Hiked to Dettifoss and Selfoss waterfalls which are fed from the glacial melt of the Vatnajokull glacier.

Another Northern Lights Show!

Caught this amazing display of Aurora lights on the way to my next stop.  Almost missed it because the sky was lit up behind me instead of to the north where I was heading.  This show lasted the longest, about 1.5 hr off an on.  Amazing color and patterns!

East Coast

The journey along Iceland's East Coast is filled with rugged coastlines and amazing mountain scenery, or at least what could be seen thru al the fog and clouds.  Visited several towns along the coast including Seydisfjordur which is a quaint harbor town located at the end of one of the most spectacular drives I've encountered so far.  The scenery along the way was just breathtaking!  Also enjoyed a Mitty moment as this was the road that he longboarded down which includes the huge waterfall he passes by.
