Our journey begins in Pragser Wildsee, home of the beautiful Lago di Braies and is the official starting point for the Alta Via 1. As we climb, the limestone peaks of the Dolomites come into focus and views get better around every turn, Along the trail, wildflowers welcome us and the rocky and steep terrain provides a nice introduction for what lies ahead. After a 3100 ft climb, 6 miles and enduring heavy rain, we reached the alpine mountain hut, Rifugio Sennes, our home for the night and a welcome sight after our soggy afternoon and first day on the trail.
